I have 30+ years experience in design for print and web, working for most of that time in a careers and training company. I have learnt marketing and design skills from the ground up, including building websites using HTML and CSS before migrating to a CMS (MODX). I mostly worked with Adobe Creative Suite software.
I have worked with several national and international charities on a freelance basis, including designing annual reports and other publications, and building and maintaining websites.
Throughout my career I have been an informal proofreader, an area of work I have always enjoyed. I have a good eye for detail! I’ve proofread a wide range of materials from signage, posters and banners to annual reports and training documents. I have also undertaken lots of proofreading on a voluntary basis, including for a Polish charity in the East Midlands.
Following my redundancy in 2026 I decided to retrain, gaining a Level 4 qualification in proofreading and editing (achieving a distinction).
I love reading and always have a novel and a non-fiction book going at the same time. I am also a volunteer for Sustrans.
“I invited Simon to help with the proofreading of my new book. I found him thorough, knowledgeable and conscientious – excellent indeed.”
Stewart Ranson, Professor Emeritus at the University of Warwick
